My First Cooking Experience

My experiences with Cooking:

Jun 4

Cooking is a journey, an adventure with the only limitations being your creativity. Spicy, sour, salt, sweet, savoury, umami and much more; cooking presents you with an endless variety of options waiting for you to explore. Anyone can cook, kids or adults, men or women, beginners or chefs. Cooking is a way to express yourself in the form of food. This is why I took an interest in cooking. The current situation provided me with tons of free-time and the power to explore something new, and one of my choices was cooking. I’ve always watched in admiration as my mom whipped up snacks, scrumptious meals and incredible desserts. So, I decided to take it one step further, why not make something myself?

To kick off my endeavour, I began helping my mom by adding spices, fetching ingredients, cutting and washing vegetables. Then, I started learning how to make simple foods like chapatis, pooris and dosas. After I could successfully make these simple dishes, it gave me the courage to attempt something bigger. It struck me that I could just watch my mom make meals, ask her questions while she prepares the food and takes notes.

This was a simple, yet efficient way for me to learn recipes and how to prepare a few meals. After learning the recipes, ratios between ingredients and amounts of spice I began making those dishes independently without my mom’s assistance.

These are some of the dishes I’ve made:

Vegetable Biryani with mixed veggies, and Onion Raita.

Rice with Potato and Peas fry

From a viewer’s perspective, cooking is just throwing a bunch of vegetables and spices in a pot and then cooking it. However, after you attempt making food yourself you realise that it is an intricate art that requires a lot of experience and patience.

In summary, the past few weeks have been an invigorating journey exploring the art of cooking and I intend to keep making different dishes.

This experience has rewarded me with the realisation of how hard my mom has worked to make all sorts of delicacies and has taught me that I shouldn’t take her efforts for granted.

Thank you to all mothers for dedicating your time towards cooking!

  1. Good attempt. Keep writing independent of comments/views. A bird sings because it has a song and not because others are watching. All the best
